Best Hack-and-Slash games after a Bad Day at Work

Had a bad day at work?

Head home and get into these hack and slash games that will help release some of that bad vibes. You can swipe the list here too.

Best Hack and Slash Games

1) Dynasty Warriors 8

  • Metacritic Score: 71
  • Price: $49.99
  • Platforms: PC, Playstation, Xbox

Skip Dynasty Warriors 9, the latest entry was meh. But DW8 is definitely one of the best hack and slash games for me!

Take down hordes of mindless solders. Best on days when nothing seems to be going your way.

2) Devil May Cry 5

  • Metacritic Score: 88
  • Price: $29.99
  • Platforms: PC, Playstation, Xbox

Dante is back with Nero and a new friend/foe, V. Hack and slash demons while uncovering V’s secrets.

3) Like A Dragon: Ishin

  • Metacritic Score: 80
  • Price: $59.99
  • Platforms: Playstation, PC, Xbox

Hack and slash bandits, samurai and other enemies off the streets. Best on days when colleagues, vendors and partners are not cooperative.

4) God of War

  • Metacritic Score: 94
  • Price: $59.99
  • Platforms: Playstation, PC

The 2018 release was the 8th instalment to the GoW series and is available on PC too. Play as Kratos and take down monsters and gods of the Norse world.

The sequel, God of War Ragnarök, was released for the Playstation in 2022 and the PC port is rumored to be out end 2023.

5) Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

  • Metacritic Score: 88
  • Price: $29.99
  • Platforms: Playstation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo

Play as Senua who has to hack and slash her way through the darkness. Might give you some food for thoughts on the experience of mental illnesses.

Also happens to be a pretty depressing RPG game. So, you may want to skip this if you’re already feeling down.

6) Ghost of Tsushima

  • Metacritic Score: 83
  • Price: $19.99
  • Platform: Playstation

A Playstation exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima lets you choose between hack and slash or battling stealthy. It feels like a soulslike but you get to select your difficulty level to customise your experience.

7) The Legend of Tianding

  • Metacritic Score: 81
  • Price: $19.99
  • Platforms: Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, Mac

A sidescrolling hack and slash game set in 20th century Taipei, you play as Tianding, an outlaw also known as the Taiwanese Robin Hood. One of the more unique presentation of a hack and slash game.

Bonus: cutscenes read like a visual manga, and voice acting is done right in Taiwanese Hokkien too.

8) Hi Fi Rush

  • Metacritic Score: 89
  • Price: $29.99
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox

If the rest of the games on this list feels too heavy, Hi-Fi RUSH is a rhythm-based game with hack and slash elements that feels more relaxed.

9) Persona 5 Strikers

  • Metacritic Score: 83
  • Price: $59.99
  • Platform: Playstation, Nintendo, PC

A hack and slash rendition of the Persona series. Way more enjoyable than Fire Emblem’s sad attempt with FE: Warriors.
